An honest, non biased review of Menallack Farm Campsite situated in Treverva, 4 miles outside of Falmouth, Cornwall.
Once a year we pack our car with what sometimes seems like the entire contents of our house and hit the road to embark on the incredibly long drive from Sussex to Cornwall. We always have such fun exploring such a beautiful county and love the outdoorys, laid back vibe. What has been a slight let down thus far is the campsites we have booked. This year I was determined to find us somewhere good.
I finally struck lucky with family run Menallack Farm. With its wonderful open views of the Cornish countryside and peaceful atmosphere, it had a really back to nature feel. Plus it was beautifully quiet at night which is always a winner.
Pitch
Pitches are spacious. You don’t feel like you are crammed in at all.
We really appreciated the amount of open space that was left. We stayed in the lower field (the one that has optional electric hook up). The pitches are set around the edge of a large grassy area. Lots of campsites would have used this to fill with more pitches. The owners here have left it open. There is a simple rope swing, a couple of trees to climb and a goal. While you would often see family games of football, frisbee and even cricket being played, there was mainly child led play going down. The older kids would come up with ideas and rules and the younger ones would join in. It was a joy to watch.
It was just lovely to see our kids making friends, socialising with different age groups and being able to give them freedom in a safe environment. Most nights they where out playing until the sun went down which did make for tired kids but it was worth it to see them so happy. Plus it meant we could relax with a beer when coming back from a busy day exploring!
Some tent pitches had small wooden huts next to them which we were told contained a cool box but I can not comment on this as our caravan pitch didn’t have one. I do know from tent camping through that additional cool box space would rarely be turned down so a thoughtful feature. Not all pitches have one so make a request when booking.
You are allowed BBQ’s. Campfires are allowed providing they are off the ground in a firepit. Firepit hire, wood and kindling are available to buy onsite.
Facilities Available at Menallack Farm Campsite
The shared facilities are clean and spacious.
There is an older toilet and shower block which is a little tired but we really had no complaints. At the top of the field, there are two spacious individual bathroom huts. Each contains a shower, a toilet a sink and a bin for nappies etc. These where popular with, and really hand for, those who needed to wash their children. They offer plenty of space and privacy. We used these for family shower time!
There is a communal camp kitchen with a microwave, fridge, freezer and plugs should you need to charge your phone.
There is no shop onsite currently but there is a small but well stocked farm shop a short drive away. When we ran out of milk the campsite owner happily provided a couple of pints. I assume from her own supply.
To Do – Onsite
If you can tear your kids away from their new found friends while on the campsite there is a lovely nature walk. I was slightly unsure on the direction to take so some sinage would be helpful. We didn’t make it through the whole thing but there is a firepit in the woods should you wish to use it and a pretty stream.
There are also sheep and some super cute and mischievous pygmy goats, pigs and some friendly ponies to visit.
To Do – Off Site
You are less than a 15 minute drive from Falmouth which is one of Cornwall’s largest towns. It has sandy beaches and a pretty, bustling harbour to explore. You can catch a ferry to St Mawes or Truro from here. We walked the 4.5k loop starting from Trelissic Garden (Truro) which has some really lovely views of the River Fall.
Menallack Farm Campsite is also only a 10 minute drive to one of my favorite National Trust sites Glendurgan Gardens.
Less than 20 minutes away is also the Helford River where we hired a self drive boat from Helford River Cruises for a couple of hours. Probably the highlight of the trip the scenery is just stunning! Lunch or dinner at The Ferry Boat Inn is delicious!
One of our favoured areas in Cornwall – The Lizard Peninsular is just 30 minutes drive away.
In Conclusion
We had a fabulous stay and I would 100% recommend this campsite to anyone who is looking for a laid back alternative to the busier coastal sites and holiday parks. There are tent, caravan, motorhome and camper van pitches plus glamping options so something for everyone.
Both kids cried when it was time to leave. Not because they didn’t want to leave Cornwall but because they didn’t want to leave the campsite. I also shed a tear or two! We really did have such a wonderful week and Menallack Farm Campsite had a lot to do with that.

From Friday to Monday prices start from £20 per pitch per night. We paid £203 for one week during May half term for 2 adults and 2 kids with electric hook up. Camping pods are available sleeping up to 5 pax from £85 per night (min 3 nights).
